Looking for a fun and educational activity for the little ones? The Happy Moose Adventure Trail (Eventyrstien til Elgåsen) is a perfect experience path specifically designed for families with children aged 3-11 years. This wonderful nature trail is located in the beautiful Telemark nature, just east of Nakksjø Station, and is a free offering that invites play, learning, and enjoyment of the outdoors.

Access and Parking

The Happy Moose Adventure Trail is located near the historical timber route near Nakksjø.

  • Turn Off: From County Road 3310 (between Drangedal and Lunde), turn off towards Nakksjø Railway Station (Nakksjø Jernbanestasjon).
  • Driving: Follow the forest road towards Høidalen (Høidalen).
  • Parking: The road to the parking area is well signposted – drive approximately one kilometer along the forest road from the station.
  • GPS/Map: Search for Nakksjø Railway Station or use Google Maps for easy navigation.

Experience the Adventure Trail!

The Adventure Trail is 500 meters long and offers a varied walk through pine forest, alongside streams, and across marshland (the historical timber route).

  • 20 Stations: Along the path, you will find $20$ unique stations that challenge children to sharpen their senses, and look out for birds, insects, and wildlife.
  • Rest Areas: There are two designated rest areas with benches along the way, perfect for a break or picnic.
  • "Daniel's Stairs": At the foot of Elgåsen, you will find a special task created by the student Daniel Lawrence – will you take the challenge?

Background Story

The trail was built in 2020 by the Australian exchange student Daniel Lawrence, who wanted to share his fascination for the authentic Telemark nature through a family-friendly offering.

  • Equipment: The trail does not require special equipment, but good walking shoes are recommended.
  • Accessibility: The trail is accessible to everyone and is open all year round.
