Experience authentic Norwegian rural culture at Slåttefestivalen in Hjartdal, Telemark. This annual festival celebrates the ancient art of scything – “ljåslått” – through competitions, live music, family activities, and local food in breathtaking natural surroundings.
Founded around the year 2000, the festival grew out of local landscape and heritage projects and has since become one of Telemark’s most beloved cultural events. It’s also home to the Norwegian Championship in scything, where participants demonstrate skill, rhythm, and respect for traditional farming methods.
