Rauland

Welcome to the mountain village at the foot of Hardangervidda National Park!

Rauland is the mountain village in Vinje which is known for its many activities both winter and summer. During winter, Rauland is one of Norway´s most snow-safe areas, but when summer finally comes, you can use Rauland as a basecamp to experience the best mountain- Telemark has to offer!

Hiking trips at Rauland

Falkeriset, Rauland - Hardangervidda

Get a panoramic view of Hardangervidda! Sherpas from Nepal have built a beautiful stone step up to the viewpoint. Falkeriset is named after the falcon hunting in the area. Suitable for people from 2 to 90 years.
Kvennavegen

Take the boat to Norway’s highest church and walk along Kvennevassdraget on Hardanger Mountain Plateau. A 1.9 km round trip on Møsstrond in Vinje. A light walk through a pedestrian village.
Water Tales in Haukeli

This route is out of the ordinary and gives you the chance to team up with our superhero Sildre – a happy little water droplet – on the hunt for the villainous Waterpire Surkula who is trying to pollute our countryside.

Sculpture hike Vidsyn - Oksatjønn

The trail starts at Vierli Kafeteria by the subway under the main road. Follow the marked trail to the top of Mount Vierlinuten (1,100 m above sea level).

Rauland offers fantastic hiking opportunities, with trails that vary both in length and level of difficulty - and not least in terrain. You can hike in the airy and beautiful mountain terrain which is the gateway to Hardangervidda National Park. If you prefere to stroll you can find a path and walk along the mountainbeaches along lake Totak or in the many beaverforests in the village. The most popular hike in Rauland is the fearly easy summit trip to Mount Falkeriset. Sherpas from Nepal have built a staircase that goes all the way from the parkinglot to the top. From the summit you have panoramic views of the Hardangervidda Plateau and you can see the majestic Mount Gaustatoppen kneeling towards the horizon.

Other activities in Rauland are canoeing and kayaking, fishing and high mountain cruise on Lake Møsvatn and last but not least: cultural experiences. Feel free to pay the tourist information office a visit and get great tips for both hiking and activities for young and old alike!
