Østre Vealøs (500 m a.s.l.) is one of the most popular hiking destinations and highest peaks in the eastern Skien region. While the summit can be reached from several directions, this route from Vierød/Gonsholt in Siljan offers a varied and scenic hike through forest terrain up to a impressive viewpoint.

Route Description

• Start at Vierød: Begin your hike at the barrier gate at Vierød and follow the forest road for about 1.2 km.
• Ascend the Hillside: Turn left onto a trail/tractor road that follows the edge of the valley inward.
• Trail Junction: Continue along the path until you meet the trail coming from Skisjø. Cross this path and continue straight ahead.
• Toward the Plateau: At the next junction on the highest point (where the trail from Gramsebu/Vestre Vealøs joins), turn left and follow the path up the hillside to the summit plateau.
• Viewpoints: A short side path leads to the absolute highest point, but for the best panoramic views of Grenland, walk a short distance south on the plateau.
• Return: Follow the same route back to the trailhead.

How to Get There (Access & Parking)

• Directions: From County Road 32 (Fv32), drive onto Austadveien toward Gonsholt. After passing Austadveien 419 (signposted Wierød), turn right.
• Parking: Drive approx. 300 meters to the barrier gate. Parking is very limited (space for only a couple of cars), so please park considerately.
