Moholt Ironworks was established in 1731 as a branch of the large ironworks in Larvik. It played a significant role in Norway’s early industrial history and contributed to local economic growth.
Today, visitors can see the remains of an old blast furnace and the impressive charcoal storage building known as the Kullkjelleren — one of the best-preserved structures from the ironworks’ heyday.
The Kullkjelleren features an intact three-part stone wall of impressive size, reflecting the scale of 18th-century iron production at Moholt.
The site has also hosted historical theatre performances, including
Maren Gulliksdatter and Slemdals bankende hjerte, which bring local history and culture to life.
