This fantastic mountain region is an ideal destination for everyone who loves cross-country skiing and winter activities. Miles of machine-groomed ski trails await you here, suitable for both families and experienced skiers.

Enjoy a trip through beautiful surroundings like Svanstulflottene, Narefjell, and Ørnenuten. The Svanstul area offers varied trail routes—from family-friendly loops to more challenging tours with fantastic views.

Popular Ski Trails and Tour Routes at Svanstul

Svanstul offers a selection of well-groomed loop trails.

1. The Floodlit Trail (Lysløypa) at Svanstul

  • Length: Approx. 5 km (loop trail).
  • Character: Family-friendly and excellent for training. It has slightly more hills than the Huldreløypa.
  • Lighting: The lights are on until 11:00 PM every night – perfect for evening skiing.
  • Accessibility: Easily reached from the parking lot or as an addition to the Huldreløypa.

2. The Huldreløypa Trail at Svanstul

  • Length: Approx. 8 km (loop trail).
  • Character: Child-friendly and a popular family route.
  • Attractions: Passes the Red Cross cabin and the TTF cabin "Fugleleiken".

3. The Steinbruløypa Trail at Svanstul

  • Length: Approx. 27 km (challenging loop trail). Approx. 20 km from Fugleleiken, and approx. 22.5 km from the parking lot (shortest route).
  • Character: More challenging and demanding, with a fantastic view towards Gaustatoppen. A tour for the experienced skier.

4. The Svanstulflottene Loop

  • Length: Approx. 4.5 km (loop trail on the plateau).
  • Character: A short path to a feeling of open expanse and fantastic views.
  • Alternatives:
    • Short return trip from the parking lot: Approx. 8.8 km.
    • Loop via Huldreløypa: Approx. 12.5 km.

Practical Information for Svanstul

How to Get to Svanstul 

  1. Follow Valebøveien northbound from Skien city center.
  2. Turn off onto the well-marked toll road at Nisterudbrua.
  3. Payment: The toll road can be paid with a bank card or a special seasonal pass.

The tourist association's cabin "Fugleleiken"

At the "Fugleleiken" cabin, you can pop in and enjoy a good cup of coffee and a delicious freshly baked waffle. The cabin is located in Huldreløyp at the junction of Narefjell and Steinbruløyp. It is operated most weekends during the winter season.
