About

Levangsheia is a natural paradise for all ages. Here you will find lush forests with calm ponds and freshwater, historic and cultural buildings and areas, as well as some of the perhaps finest archipelago in the entire district. Immerse yourself in Portør Havn's history dating back to Snorres Kongesagaer, go on a forest trip to one of the many fantastic freshwaters, enjoy a round of golf at Kragerø Resort or try your fishing luck at one of the many beautiful fishing spots. Here you will find natural beauty and experiences all year round!

Experience Levangsheia's beautiful scenery
Levangsheia has a varied and beautiful scenery. In the sea there`s plenty of fish and if you are lucky it`s possible to spot a seal or two, while in the freshwaters nearby you might be lucky enough to spot a beaver. The beautiful forest houses animals like moose, deer and deers.

The beautiful scenery offers many beautiful and exciting hiking opportunities and a map of the hiking trails in the area has been made to make the hiking easier. The map is available for purchase at the Joker store at Levang, the gas station at Levang, Portør pensjonat and Kragerø Resort. With good suggestions for both mountain hikes as well as round trips - family-friendly, as well as more challenging - on the map's informative backside, the most is facilitated for you to enjoy the most of this beautiful nature. So put on your best hiking shoes, pack a bag of delicious food and drinks and head out into Levangsheia's beautiful nature.

Fishing at Levangsheia
If you are interested in fishing, the area offers fishing opportunities both in the sea and in the many fresh waters. The hunting and fishing association out here has for many years been actively engaged in the cultivation of the fishing waters and the waters are now Gunnulfsvann (Viborgtjenna), Mørkvann, Blåbærtjenna and Tranevann. Fishing in the sea is free for everyone, but to be able to fish in the freshwaters one must have a fishing license. You can buy that at the gas station at Levang.

Fishing opportunities are great, especially from a boat, but it is said that the best places for sea fishing are in Finnsbudalen, Portør and Myrstranda, and on Stangnes it is nice to stand and throw with a rod.

Experience Levangsheia
Stabbestad is a central area on Levangsheia, and it is also the are where Levangsheia primary school and kindergarten is located. Kragerø Resort towers majestic over Stabbestad with a magnificent view and, in addition to a great 18 hole golf course, has a wealth of other amenities. Here you can enjoy a game of tennis, relax with some spa treatments after the busy day or go down to the beach club located down by the water.

From the Levangs peninsula stems another little "peninsula", a magnificent space that is equally irresistible when the autumn and winter storms whip and the waves roll ashore, as a beautiful summer day when the sun is steaming on the beautiful and naked rocklandscape. Take a trip to the beautiful Stangnes nature-area, relax with a delicious meal at charming Portør Pensjonat, or hire a boat at Portør Hytteutleie and try your fishing luck at sea. This is idyllic Portør!

On the road from Stabbestad to Levang you will find the place Støle. Here lies the beautiful Støle church, built in 1892. This ancient protected tree church is not far from the old coastal road between Kragerø and Risør and has a corresponding cemetery that lies besides it in the woods.

Grocery shopping at Levangsheia
Outside of Levang, across the road to the area's gas station, you will find a charming old shop called Joker Westgaard. The store may not be the largest in size but the selection on the other hand is ample. Nor will it be on the services offered, in addition to buying food and flowers, you can order cakes and pick up prescription medicine. The store is open all year round!

Room and board
At Levangsheia there are several accommodation options and dining is no problem either, be sure to enjoy a delicious meal at Kragerø Resort or Portør Pensjonat, or maybe shop for a delicious dinner at Joker Westgaard. Portør hytteutleie and Portør Pensjonat offers accommodation at Portør, while Kragerø Resort and Kragerøfjorden Camping (Season Mai 1 - August 31) offer accommodation at Stabbestad. Read more under the respective places to find out more about what they have to offer.

The road here and onwards
Levangsheia is easily accessible by car as well as boat. National cycle route number 1 takes you here on two wheels, while the coastal path takes you here by foot. If you are coming by car, take either the road through Risør municipality and Aust-Agder to Levang, or the exit to Stabbestad from Tangen in Sannidal.

The ferry, express boat and taxi boats give you a ride on the Kragerø - Stabbestad stretch and takes you out to the Levangsheia peninsula in a matter of minutes. The taxi-boats can usually take you wherever you want as long as there is a docking possibility there.

Timetables for the route Kragerø- Stabbestad may be found here!
Information about the taxi boats can be found here!

Levang is a good starting point for a beautiful day trip to Risør. From Levang you can drive further on and over to Øisang where the old treeferry MF Øisang traffics the archipelago between Øisang and Risør. (In the summer, tourists are catered for and it runs hourly routes throughout the day. The ferry can take 60 passengers and three cars on each trip.) MF Øisang is part of Cycle Route 1 which is a national cycle route for holiday cycling.

On two wheels to Levangsheia
If you are most comfortable on 2 wheels, Levangshalvøya is easily accessible for cyclists. If you do not own a bike, this can be hired at Kragerø Resort.
National Cycle Route nr.1 – Kystruta/the coastal route, stretches throughout Norway's coast and part of the route goes through Stabbestad and Levang. A map of the national cycle routes can be found here. You can also choose to cycle the shortened Sørlandruta and Skjærgårdsruta. Sørlandsruta is 220km long and runs between Larvik and Kristiansand, while Skjærgårdsruta, the shortest with its 40km, runs from Langesund to Kragerø.

On foot to Levangsheia
The coastal path in Kragerø goes from Fossing to Ellingsvika and is 42 km in total. The stretch is divided into 3 and the last stage consists of the Stabbestad - Ellingsvika stretch, where the road from Kragerø center to Stabbestad is made by ferry.  There are three pdf brochures below each other, with the lower one covering the Stabbestad-Ellingsvika stretch.
