About the Farm

Nordbø Gard & Stule is located in the heart of Hjartdal, Telemark, at Hundemyrvegen 68, 3690 Hjartdal.
The farm operates around 50 decares of cultivated land and approximately 1,000 decares of outfield grazing land, a total of about 1,500 decares of managed area. This is a family-run farm that preserves old traditions and mountain farming practices (seterdrift) – an authentic meeting place for local food and nature.

When Can You Visit?

  • Visitors are welcome to stop by the farm shop, but it’s recommended to contact the farm in advance to confirm opening hours.
  • During the summer season – especially July and August – you can visit the mountain farm (seter) at Bjordal, which belongs to Nordbø Gard, and experience traditional seterdrift with home-made sour cream porridge (rømmegrøt), coffee, and waffles served in beautiful surroundings.
  • Because the farm operates in a traditional way, activities and serving options depend on the season and are available by arrangement.

What’s Produced and Served

  • The farm focuses on milk and cheese production following old local traditions – producing cheese, butter, sour cream, and prim (a sweet brown cheese spread).

Road Directions

Nordbø Gard & Stule is located in Hjartdal, Upper Telemark, between Notodden and Seljord. From the E134 highway, turn off at Hjartdal village and follow the signs towards Nordbø Gard (Hundemyrvegen 68). Driving time is approximately 40 minutes from Notodden, 1 hour from Rjukan, and 2.5 hours from Oslo.

During the summer, you can also visit the Bjordal mountain farm (stule), located in the hills above the main farm. The road to the mountain farm is a toll road (approx. NOK 130), and the drive takes about 20–30 minutes. It’s recommended to contact the farm in advance for directions, road conditions, and parking details.
