The Skotfosstien Trail is a beautiful, 3.7-kilometer cultural path located in Skotfoss, Skien, just 6 km from Skien city center. This scenic trail follows the waterway and offers a unique look into local history.
The trail begins at the historic Løveid Locks, which were completed back in 1861. Along the route, you'll find 15 information signs that tell the story of Skotfoss Bruk and the community that grew up around the paper factory.
Skotfoss Bruk, established in 1892, was once one of the most important industries in the region. The community quickly developed into a lively town with over 50 shops and businesses. Although the factory closed in 1986, its history lives on along the trail. You can also see the sculpture "Papirsorterersken" (The Paper Sorter) by Trygve Barstad, which honors the factory's workers.
