Hiking to Vieråsane viewpoint Åstjønn

About

Vieråsen (Vieråsane) is tucked away behind Lake Åstjønn and remains a lesser-known peak for many hikers. As a neighboring summit to the highly popular Melakollen, Vieråsen surprises visitors with incredible panoramic views over the local region. This is an ideal hike if you are looking for a quieter summit experience in Siljan.

Route Description

• Start at Siljan Church: Walk from the church toward Snurråsen and turn right at the first intersection.
• Via Roligheten: Pass Roligheten and follow the road to the right, stepping onto a tractor road/path along the edge of the field.
• Ascend toward Åstjønn: At the trail junction, turn right, cross the bridge, and follow the path up the hillside to Lake Åstjønn.
• Across the Clearing: Follow the path along the southern shore of Åstjønn and continue northeast across a forestry clearing (here you will meet the trail coming up from Bjørneskottet).
• Through the Valley to the Viewpoint: Continue north into the valley. Follow the valley until you round the mountain heading west, then follow the path up to the summit viewpoint.
• Return: Follow the same route back to Siljan Church.

How to Get There (Access & Public Transport)

• Directions: Follow County Road 32 (Fv32) from Skien or Porsgrunn to Siljan. Turn left at the gas station toward Siljan Church.
• Parking: Ample parking space is available at Siljan Church.
• Public Transport: Take local bus P7 to the Snurråsen bus stop, located right next to Siljan Church.
