Hiking to Vieråsane viewpoint Åstjønn

Vieråsen, behind Åstjønn lake, is probably unfamiliar to many people. It neighbours the extremely popular Melakollen, and it too can surprise with great views.

Description of hike
The hike starts from Siljan church, heading towards Snurråsen. Go right at the first intersection. Pass Roligheten farm and continue to the right on a tractor road/track along the elevation. Go right at the intersection, over a bridge and on up the hillside to Åstjønn lake. The footpath follows the south side of the lake then continues north-east, across a felling patch. Another footpath coming down from Bjørneskottet meets the footpath in the felling patch above the lake. Continue north to a valley. To reach the viewpoint, follow the valley until you round the mountain heading west and continue up to the summit.

Access
Take county road 32 from Skien to Siljan. At the filling station, turn left towards Siljan church and park by the church. You can also take local bus P7 to Snurråsen bus stop, which is right by the church.
