Holmfjell is a popular hiking destination in Siljan, Norway, offering stunning views of Lake Skisjø and Vestre Vealøs. The hike is short, easy, and family-friendly, making it ideal for both children and adults. Although Holmfjell is not a prominent mountain peak, the panoramic viewpoint gives you the real “summit feeling” — and with some luck, you may spot a common buzzard soaring above the treetops.
By car: Drive along County Road 32 from Skien to Siljan. Turn off at Holtesletta, signposted Idrettsanlegg. Follow Industriveien to the end of the road by the water tower, where you will find a large parking area.
By bus: Take the Grenland Express or local bus P7 to Holtesletta syd. Walk about 250 m towards Skien, then turn into Industriveien and follow it to the end (10–15 minutes on foot).
From the parking lot at the water tower, follow the tractor road up to the ski arena and floodlit trail. Turn right and continue west along the trail. After about 300 m you’ll reach a signposted junction for Holmfjell. From here, follow the well-marked blue trail maintained by Siljan Turlag.
After passing a small marsh area, the trail curves around and gradually leads you up to the viewpoint at Holmfjell.
For those looking for a bit more distance, the route can be extended as a loop via Fiskebekkåsen.
At the summit you’ll be rewarded with a wide panorama over Skisjø and Vestre Vealøs. Many consider Holmfjell to be one of Siljan’s finest viewpoints. On clear days, you may experience the impressive sight of buzzards gliding from the treetops below all the way up into the sky.
Holmfjell has been a popular stop in the “Ti-topper’n Siljan” hiking program for years, making it a beloved destination for both casual Sunday walks and after-work workouts.
