Hanakamjuvet is one of Seljord’s most popular and accessible natural gems. Located in the beautiful Kivledalen valley just above the town center, this family-friendly loop offers everything from dramatic gorges and rushing waterfalls to spectacular views of Seljord and Lake Seljord—the legendary home of the sea serpent. It is the perfect hike for those seeking big nature experiences in a short amount of time.

Route Description: A Journey Through Kivledalen

Hanakamjuvet is beautifully situated in Kivledalen. The trail is designed as a loop that is easy to follow:

  1. The Start: The hike begins at the parking area on Gullnesvegen. Walk back a short distance along the road, turn right, and follow the signs marked "Hanakamjuvet."
  2. Highlights: Along the path, you will pass impressive waterfalls and deep gorges. There are several excellent viewpoints along the way where you can enjoy the sight of the Seljord village and the sparkling lake below.
  3. The Loop: When you reach the road again, you can turn right and follow it back to the parking lot.

Tip: For a more natural experience, you can choose the forest path on the north side of the gorge for your return trip.

Explore Kivledalen

Kivledalen is an area rich in both nature and cultural history. Here you will find traces of old settlements and legends tied to Seljord's rich past. The area is well-equipped with benches and resting spots, making it ideal for an outdoor picnic.
