There is a magnificent view from the highest point along the road, 400 meters above Fyresvatn. Fyresvatn lies 100 meters above sea level, and measures 370 meters at its deepest.
Earlier, when travelling between Fyresdal town centre and Kilegrend, the options where either crossing the water in summertime or the ice in winter time. There was a riding path across the mountains, but this route was quite difficult and tiring to travel by. The inland boat D/S Fyrisdal came into operation in 1876, and that was a huge progress. In 1950, the road across Våmur was finished, resulting in easier transportation as well as a tourist road holding a magnificent view.
