The hike to Eikeskartoppen offers one of the most spectacular views in Notodden. As a local song says:
“Have you seen the town from Eikeskartoppen, framed by water and hills?”
If you haven’t, you are in for a treat! On clear days, you get a breathtaking panorama over Heddalsvannet, the town of Notodden, and even Lifjell in the distance.
When low fog covers the valley, the summit rises above the clouds, making it feel like you’re standing on top of the sky — just remember, it’s a sheer drop of several hundred meters, so stay safe!
You can choose from several marked trails:
From Høgås:
The shortest and easiest route starts at the water tower in Høgås. This trail is ideal for families and beginners.
From Tveiten / Øta:
A slightly longer and more varied route with gentle hills — perfect if you want a bit more of a workout.
All trails are well-marked and signposted by Notodden og Hjartdal Turlag, so navigation is easy. You can also use online trail maps to explore alternative paths to the summit.
The hike takes about 1 hour round trip from Høgås.
