Bring your binoculars and a packed lunch to one of the reserve’s bird-watching towers to enjoy many action-packed and fascinating moments.
The most popular times to come here are during the spring and autumn migration periods. At these times, there is a good chance of meeting other bird and nature enthusiasts keen to share their knowledge of the local bird life and have a good chat. Perhaps they’ll be able to show you some exciting bird species with the telescope? There are throngs of birds of all sizes and colours. More than 230 species of birds have been spotted in the area: smew, black-tailed godwit, common grasshopper warbler, Temminck’s stint – you name it!
The Grenland branch of the Norwegian Ornithological Society has a base at the north end of the lake. A completely new bird-watching hide was built by Børesjø lake in 2019, following the principles of universal design, and will serve as a venue for activities for all ages.
In the period from 15 April to 1 July, movement in the reserve is restricted to the footpaths. All hunting is banned, and fishing is banned in the period from 15 March to 30 June inclusive.
Børsesjø is best accessed from Gjerpen church. There is a waymarked path between Gjerpen Care Home and the Rectory to the bird-watching tower at the south-western end and to the bird-watching hide in the north-west.
