When you're out in the mountains, you're sharing the landscape with some of our most vulnerable species – among them, the wild reindeer.
To ensure that these majestic animals can live undisturbed in their natural habitat, it’s important to be respectful. Wild reindeer are especially sensitive during the calving season in May and can be easily disturbed by both humans and dogs.
The Wild Reindeer Guidelines encourage you to:
- Choose alternative hiking areas if wild reindeer are nearby
- Avoid calving areas during May
- Stick to marked trails and keep your dog under control
- Stop and stay quiet if you see reindeer – and use binoculars to observe from a safe distance
Small choices can make a big difference – for the wild reindeer and for future nature experiences.
