King Chulalongkorn was a Thai king who visited Brevik 28 July 1907. He was king of Siam from 1868 to 1910 and belonged the Chakri dynasty. The king abolished by law the death penalty and slavery.
He added a royal Councillors of Government, the Sangha Council, and prescribed primary school also for girls.
He came to Brevik with his yacht.
From here they went with horse and carriage through Breviks streets.
The king was very excited about this idyllic town. The weather was glorious on this day and he wrote home to Bangkok and told that it was just as hot in Brevik as it was back home in Thailand.
In 2010, the Thai government set up a statue of him in Brevik, thanks for the attention Breviks population had shown the king and his country.
