About

Discover the unique art installation "Station" (often called the Porcelain Rolls) in Storgata, Porsgrunn. This public artwork consists of 8 rotatable porcelain rolls, a direct tribute to the iconic design legend Nora Gulbrandsen from the Porsgrund Porcelain Factory (PP). Spin the rolls for endless design variations inspired by Gulbrandsen.

In the heart of Porsgrunn city center, specifically in Storgata, you can experience the interactive artwork "Station". The installation consists of eight large, mounted porcelain rolls that invite the public to participate.

The work is a meaningful tribute to designer Nora Gulbrandsen, who was a pioneering artistic director for the Porsgrund Porcelain Factory (PP) during the 1920s and 30s. Each roll contains patterns and elements inspired by her iconic designs.

The production of "Station" is a collaborative project involving the renowned artist couple Kari Skoen Fredriksen and Odd Fredrik Heiberg. Additionally, the skilled straw painters Astrid Gundersen and Anita Magnussen have contributed to realizing the artwork's details.

The rolls are grouped and mounted side-by-side. The public is encouraged to spin the porcelain rolls, which creates a dynamic and ever-changing expression. This interactive element provides an infinite number of variations and ensures that the artwork never looks the same twice. Visit "Station" in Storgata to see a piece of living Porsgrunn history and Norwegian design heritage.
