Batteriet at Øya in Brevik is a picturesque viewpoint and public park offering panoramic views over the Brevik Fjord. It is a peaceful spot to relax and watch ships sail by, while also being a site steeped in dramatic history—ranging from 19th-century executions to World War II fortifications.
Historic Execution Site: Batteriet holds a dark place in local history. On October 19, 1838, the infamous mail robber Ole Berg was publicly beheaded at this very location.
World War II Bunker: During the German occupation in WWII, a large military bunker was constructed here, which remains as a historic landmark today.
Scenic Park & Fjord Views: Today, the area has been transformed into a well-maintained park with seating areas, making it one of the finest vantage points in Brevik to take in the coastal scenery.
