About

Looking for the perfect spot for your next canoe or kayak trip? Lake Kilevannet is widely considered one of the most popular paddling destinations in Lower Telemark, and for good reason. With its countless coves, hidden bays, and narrow straits, this lake is a dream to explore from a canoe seat.

A Diverse Paddling Route with Zero Portage

Lake Kilevannet offers ideal paddling conditions and flexible route options for both short outings and multi-day trips:

  • Size and Reach: From Vassbotn (south of Rognsbru) to Stavdal in the north, it spans about 10 km in a straight line. Following the picturesque shoreline all the way around will significantly multiply your distance.
  • No Portage Required: There are no land carries or portages on Lake Kilevannet itself, making the trip highly accessible and smooth—even for families with children.
  • Great Picnic and Campsites: You will find plenty of scenic picnic areas and ideal overnight spots for pitching a tent or setting up a hammock.

Launch Points and Parking

Getting onto the water with a canoe or kayak is easy, with several convenient launch spots offering parking space:

  • Stavdal: A great starting point at the northern end of the lake.
  • Kilebygda: Popular launch sites include the bridge at Ålgerstad (where the river flows out), Kilebygda Church, and Rognsbru.
