Beaches and places to swim

Skien offers many nice and varied swimming spots. You can choose between small mountain lakes, rivers and ponds.

The idyllic Bakkestranda by Hjellevannet is close to the city centre, only a short walk away. The bathing site has a nice lawn, a sandy beach and is suitable for children and people with disabilities. Here you will also find barbecue facilities.

Lake Åletjern at Gulset and the forest pond Bliva (approx. 13 km from the centre) are two very popular bathing spots. The Garvann falls (approx. 18 km from the city centre) are an idyllic bathing eldorado with pools and waterfalls in a row. Once you get here, you stay here all day. Here you can slide down the natural slides in nature's own water park and sunbathe all day long on the smooth rocks.

If the weather is not so good, the water park in Skien fritidspark invites you to one of Norway's largest water parks. Here the bathing temperature is always nice. The water park offers a beach area, slides, wave pool, pool climbing wall, stream channel, diving pool and much more.
