Langesund, an old and charming costal town dating back to 1765, is the regional administration centre.
It has strong traditions as a harbour for lumber, shipbuilding and ice and is beautifully situated on the fjord of the same name. In the centre of town are a number of well-preserved and restored buildings from the late 18th century.
The area around Langesund is reowned for its interesting flora and geology. Steinvika and Krogshavn are two outdor areas suitable for families and swimming.
Langesund customs warehouse as it stands today was erected in 1869.
Tollpakkboden is a log-built warehouse, the main part of which dates from the early 1700s.
The old guardhouse is now a customs museum, with artefacts found there from long ago.
