Tollpakkboden is a log-built warehouse, the main part of which dates from the early 1700s. The building incorporates a wash-house to the west near the actual custom house and a storehouse facing out to the sound. It was extended in the early 20th century, taking on the L-shape we see today.
The Customs Service took over the property in 1858, establishing the custom house and storerooms for goods confiscated on their way into and out of Norway. The Langesund customs office was established in 1587 and operated on this site from 1858 to 1962.
The old guardhouse is now a customs museum, with artefacts found there from long ago.
Langesund customs warehouse as it stands today was erected in 1869.
