About

From 2025 to 2028, the Henrik Ibsen Museum will be temporarily located in the beautiful Brekkeparken in Skien. Visit the charming little Ibsen House also called “Ibsenstua” at the entrance to the park. Here is the starting point for guided city walks through Skien and Ibsen-themed tours in the park. While you're here, enjoy freshly made waffles, taste the classic Ibsen honey cake, and browse a selection of unique Ibsen souvenirs.

A New Museum Takes Shape at Venstøp

Meanwhile, major developments are underway at Venstøp – Henrik Ibsen’s childhood home. A brand-new, modern museum is under construction and set to open in 2028. At the same time, the historic main house is being restored to reflect how it looked during Ibsen’s early years.

Opening Hours

The Ibsenstua is open daily from 11 AM to 5 PM until August 31 (closed on Mondays).

An extraordinarily beautiful place. Especially during the summer (but probably also during the colder months). Fun for just a casual stroll or group activities. Read full review
