Three scenic villages idyllically nestled among lakes, rivers, forests, and mountains in the municipality of Kviteseid. The area is especially famous for snow and ski enthusiasts, but it is equally nice in summer when the hills and valleys are blanketed in green grass and wildflowers as far as the eye can see. Come autumn, as the colours shift to vibrant reds and yellows, the region bursts with blueberries and cranberries.

Up here, in the heart of Telemark's deep forests, nature is undoubtedly the main attraction. Enjoy swimming, mountain climbing, cycling, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), or sailing across the beautiful lakes of Nisser, Bandak, Kviteseidvatnet, and Vråvatn. In addition, fantastic hiking opportunities await nearby at Hægefjell, Venelifjellet, and Roholtsfjell, along with gentler trails in the lowlands.

Located just a 2–3 hour drive from Kristiansand, Langesund, Larvik, Sandefjord, and Oslo, Vrådal, Kviteseid, and Morgedal are perfect destinations for day trips or weekend getaways—exciting places to enjoy all year round!

Hiking tours around Vrådal

If you love hiking, Vrådal is the perfect destination. Great effort has been put into clearing, marking, and signposting many of the trails, offering a wide range of fantastic hiking options—from short walks to more challenging treks.

One of the most popular destinations is the summit hike to majestic Hægefjell. This moderately demanding trek rewards you with sweeping views in every direction and panoramic vistas of Vrådal and the lakes Nisser and Vråvatn. Did you know that the name Hægefjell might stem from the Old Norse Hågefjell ("the high mountain")? It can also translate to "the sacred mountain."

A mountain hike tailored for the whole family is the trip up Venelifjell. Venelifjell means "the beautiful mountain"—something you immediately understand upon reaching the top. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Kragerø, as well as the mountains of Hardangervidda and Gaustatoppen. We recommend bringing both a fishing rod and swimwear, as there are plenty of spots to fish and swim along the route.

Another great family option is the trail up to Øverbø in Morgedal. Pack some delicious food and drinks and take your family to this beautiful croft, where ski legend Sondre Norheim was born in 1825. Sondre would spend hours skiing these slopes, which offer incredible views over Morgedal. It is fascinating to think that inside this tiny cottage, the world's first Olympic winter flame was lit for the 1952 Oslo Games—and later for Squaw Valley in 1960 and Lillehammer in 1994.
