Omnesfossen, Sauland — Nature & Experience
Discover the idyllic Omnesfossen in Sauland — a beautiful riverscape where the water winds through the landscape, creating natural pools and waterfalls. Here, the power of nature meets recreation, attracting both swimmers and anglers.
Practical information & tips
Arrival: Parking at Fossen Motorhome Camp or Heddal Mill.
Safety: Be aware of changing currents and slippery rocks. Never jump without checking depth and bottom conditions.
Best time: Summer, when the water level is moderate, offers the safest conditions for swimming and fishing.
Combination: Bring both swimwear and fishing gear — this is the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing dip and try your luck fishing.
Swimming
Omnesfossen is one of the most popular bathing spots for locals and visitors in Sauland and the surrounding area. Swimming takes place in natural pools where the river flows calmly enough for a refreshing dip. Smooth rocks and riverbanks provide great spots for sunbathing and relaxing.
Note: Water levels and currents change with rainfall and season, so always assess conditions before entering the water.
Fishing
Fishing is possible in the pools around the waterfall and downstream stretches of the river.
Fishing permits can be purchased digitally at inatur.no.
Omnesfossen has an important biological role as a natural barrier for migratory fish, although salmon have been documented passing the falls under certain conditions. The waterfall is also significant in water management due to its role in fish migration and river ecology.
