This short but rich hike begins at the junction where you turn off the road down to Åmdals Verk Mines. You can park your car here and follow the clearly marked trail that leads you into a landscape shaped by both nature and cultural history.
The trail follows an old mining road and is approximately 1 km each way. The route is out-and-back along the same path. Along the way, you’ll pass traces of old settlements and mining activity from the time when Åmdals Verk was a busy mining site. Several information signs are placed along the route, providing insights into the various historical locations, making this a fascinating and educational walk for all ages.
The destination of the hike, Cross Cut, is a beautiful and historically significant place. This is where the old power station once stood — it supplied electricity to the surrounding mines and was a central part of the mining operations. The site reflects the technological developments and major efforts made to extract valuable minerals from the mountains.
During the summer, guided tours are also offered by Åmdals Verk Mines, giving you even deeper insight into the area’s mining history.
Please note that the trail can be a bit wet at the beginning, so good hiking shoes are recommended. Some parts are steep, so take care, especially if you’re hiking with children. On warm days, the area can also be a nice spot for a refreshing swim.
Distance: approx. 2 km round trip
