About

For dedicated off-road cyclists and experienced mountain bikers, the Villmarksrunden (The Wilderness Loop) offers one of the most challenging cycling adventures in Telemark. This 23-kilometer facilitated loop is a must for riders seeking demanding terrain situated between Lunde and Drangedal in the municipality of Nome, Norway.

Route Information and Difficulty Level

The Villmarksrunden is a demanding but rewarding experience best suited for those with advanced riding skills:

  • Difficulty: Medium to High. The route includes sections of high difficulty, but it is possible to choose only the segments that feature a medium difficulty level.
  • Length: 23 km loop trail.
  • Estimated Time: Approximately 3 hours for the full loop. Time will vary based on skill level and bike type (e-bikes are fastest).
  • Flexibility: The loop can be divided into three shorter routes, each taking about one hour.

Route Description and Starting Point

This mountain bike trail is officially maintained through collaboration between local associations.

  • Start and Parking: The route begins at the parking lot at Åslandsfjell, which is located approximately 15 kilometers from the Hogga lock (part of the Telemark Canal).
  • Route Details: From the parking area, follow Sverdalsvegen and Hurumvegen up towards Storlifjell, and then follow the marked trail onwards.

Collaboration and Volunteer Effort

The Villmarksrunden was officially opened by Nome stisykkel (Nome Trail Cycling) on May 20, 2022, and is a project proudly driven by volunteer commitment.

The route is a collaboration between Nome stisykkel and the Høidalen, Sætre and Åsland Cultural-Historical Association.

Want to contribute? The trails are maintained and improved with the help of volunteer efforts and donations. Support the work to keep the Nome bike trails in top condition:
