About the Rainbow Trail at Kåfjellåsen

Kåfjellåsen is home to Norway’s first official Rainbow Trail, opened in June 2021 by Notodden og Hjartdal Turlag (part of The Norwegian Trekking Association).

This unique trail celebrates diversity, inclusion, and community. It symbolizes that nature welcomes everyone — no matter your background, age, religion, identity, or ability level.

Just like a rainbow brings light and hope after the rain, the trail serves as a reminder that everyone belongs and deserves to be accepted as they are. These values are deeply rooted in Norwegian outdoor culture and in the work of DNT.

Two Easy Routes to the Top

From Bjørkemoen

Distance: 1.6 km one way (approx. 3.4 km round trip)
Time: 30 min up / under 1 hour round trip
Elevation gain: 79 m
Season: All year

This route starts from Bjørkemoen and winds through light pine forest. At the summit, you’re rewarded with a surprisingly beautiful view over the town from the north. There is a campfire area and benches at the top — perfect for a break.

From Lisleherad

Distance: 1.4 km one way (approx. 2.8 km round trip)
Time: 30 min up / under 1 hour round trip
Elevation gain: 104 m
Season: All year

This route is slightly steeper than from Bjørkemoen, but still an easy, family-friendly hike. It also ends at the same summit with fantastic views and peaceful surroundings.

Viewpoint and Facilities

At the top of Kåfjellåsen you’ll find:

  • Stunning views of the town from the north
  • Campfire area with benches
  • Great mobile coverage and a perfect sunset spot
