Himingen is a classic hike in Notodden, easily recognized by its pyramid-shaped profile. From the parking at Myregvarv, follow a clear trail west before turning north. The first section has several intersecting paths and cabin roads, so pay close attention to your direction. The terrain is steep in places with stones and roots, but the path is well trodden. About halfway up the mountainside you pass a small cave and areas with rock crystal (quartz). Once you reach the ridge, the terrain levels out and the panorama opens toward Gaustatoppen, Lifjell, and Notodden. At the cairn on the far northwest end of the ridge (1,066 m a.s.l.), you’ll find the summit register box belonging to Notodden and Hjartdal Turlag. The hike suits hiking-savvy families in dry conditions.
Note: The trail is no longer waymarked by the DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association), but it is well trodden—bring a map/GPX.
When hiking in Himingen, it is important to travel responsibly to take care of nature. Always follow the marked trail marked with a red T, take your trash home and respect wildlife.
Remember that the weather in Himingen can change quickly - sun can turn to fog and strong winds in a short time. Therefore, pack windproof and waterproof clothing, as well as sun protection regardless of the weather forecast.
The trail consists of a lot of mountains and rugged terrain, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended. The best season for hiking in Himingen is from April to November, when the trail is snow-free and safe.
