A 10minute ferry ride or 20-minute drive from Tangen in Sannidal takes you to beautiful Stabbestad, located on a peninsula on the outside of Kragerø. Stabbestad is an important and central area on the peninsula, and the area's school and kindergarten are also located here. Stabbestad offers beautiful nature and bathing possibilities and is also a great starting point for trips further into the peninsula with its beautiful scenery. This is for instance a starting point for one of the stages of the coastal path. Here you can enjoy lazy summer days or explore the nature that is filled with treasures like berries and mushrooms outside of the summer season. Kragerø Resort is a central part of Stabbestad with its many facilities and the beach club down by the water attracts many summer tourists as well as residents.
Accommodation at Stabbestad
At the top of the Stabbestad hill, with a magnificent view of the Kragerø archipelago, towers Kragerø Resort. Here you will find, in addition to accommodation, spa and restaurant, a large and beautiful 18-hole golf course, driving range, tennis courts and more. Here the conditions are in place to meet your every need. If you prefer camping, Kragerøfjorden Camping with its lovely waterfront location might be the place for you. Kragerøfjorden Camping currently has 76 full-year caravan spots, but they also offer a number of day to day spaces for caravans, campers and tents. The season is from May 1th to the 31th of August.
Beach and bathing life at Stabbestad
A stone's throw from the ferry port at Stabbestad you will find Kragerø Resort's Beach Club. This is a great facility that is open to all. Here you will find a 2-level diving tower, saltwater pool, cafe / restaurant, volleyball court and more. You can also rent a sea kayak for a specific period and explore the nearby archipelago. If you prefer more nature and less man-made, Vestre Stabbestad is a short distance from the ferry port and there is a car / forest road all the way down. Here you’ll find a big lawn, sandy beach, boat and bathing area with dive board and stairs. As well as basic facilities like toilet.
The Coastal Path and other hiking opportunities
From the ferry port you can easily reach several nearby hiking areas. Mellomvann and Bjelkviktjenna are short and easy-going hikes of 1.5-2km which offer delicious woodland and calm freshwater. If you continue from here on you will pass Skjørsvika and further on the beautiful Strømtangen lighthouse and Rapen. This stretch is also part of the beautiful coastal path, where the first stretch of the Stabbestad-Ellingsvika trail starts at the ferry port and ends at Rapen, where the next stage starts. It's about 12 km from Stabbestad to Rapen and the trip takes about 3.5 hours. A map of the trip can be found here.
From Kragerø Resort you can also follow the trail across the peninsula to Gåsmyr and enjoy a great woodland hike. Gåmyr is also a great base for hikes to many other great places. Map of trails, water and peaks nearby can be found here.
Transport possibilities to and at Stabbestad
Stabbestad is easily accessible, either by car, boat or ferry. If you are arriving by car, take the exit to Stabbestad instead of Kragerø on Tangen in Sannidal, or you can drive to Stabbestad through Levang from Risør Municipality. The ferry departs from the ferry terminal in Kragerø City Center and uses approx. 10 minutes on the crossing. From here you can also take an express boat and taxi boats to Stabbestad. If you come by private boat there is a large boatyard right next to the beach club that you can take advantage of, and there’s a boatyard right next to the ferry.
