Looking for endless freedom on skis? Rauland has Telemark’s largest network of cross-country ski trails, with an impressive 150 km of well-groomed trails. Rauland offers sheltered forest areas, wide-open mountain plateaus, floodlit trails and double classic tracks.

Cross-country skiing in Telemark is all about spectacular scenery and snow-sure mountain plateaus. At Gausta, you’ll find varied terrain with 85 km of groomed trails and spectacular views of Gaustatoppen. Popular routes such as Svardalsløypa, Rød 10 and Blå 23 offer challenges for skiers of all levels.

One of the most popular routes is the 6.3 km loop in Silkedalen, with 278 metres of elevation gain and a duration of around 2–2.5 hours. It’s perfect for an accessible and immersive experience in the Norwegian wilderness.

At Haukeli, with 65 km of groomed trails, you can enjoy a true winter experience thanks to early-season trail grooming. Floodlit trails in Vågslid and Edland keep the skiing going after sunset. From the ski centre, mountain trails extend towards Haukeliseter and are groomed right through the Easter season. South of the Kjela River, you’ll find an extensive trail network ideal for both skate skiing and classic cross-country skiing.

Family-friendly cross-country skiing in Telemark

For families with children and those looking for a more relaxed pace, Vrådal offers the perfect combination of family-friendly cross-country ski trails and beautiful nature experiences, with a trail network of approximately 40 km.

Take the lift to the top of Vrådal Panorama Ski Centre for direct access to easy 3 km and 4 km loop trails in gentle mountain terrain. Looking for more variety? Try the Holtetjønn trail for a sheltered journey through the forest, or choose the easy Stemnetten trail across the open mountain landscape.

Family-friendly trails and spectacular mountain landscapes at Lifjell

At Lifjell, several family-friendly loop trails start directly from the Jønnbu plateau, part of an extensive 75 km network of groomed trails. For a greater challenge, follow the trails further into the high mountains, where spectacular views open up between peaks reaching almost 1,300 metres above sea level.

A natural highlight is Hollane, an idyllic mountain retreat known for freshly baked waffles and sunny spots to take a break. It can be reached either on skis or by the tracked Weasel vehicle.

Discover a varied network of ski trails at Gautefall

Gautefall adds to the family-friendly offering with a varied network of 60 km of groomed trails across Gautefallheia, Gamatun, Bjønntjønn and around Rytterspranget. The area is also home to Gautefall Biathlon, a modern year-round facility featuring a 4.3 km floodlit trail of the highest standard.
