Discover the city of Ibsen
Skien is the birthplace of Henrik Ibsen, and there are plenty of ways to discover his story here. Visit Ibsenstua, join an Ibsen walking tour through the city or catch a performance at Ibsenhuset, the largest cultural venue in Telemark. Brekkeparken also brings Ibsen’s life and literature to life in beautiful surroundings.
Explore Snipetorp, a charming historic neighbourhood and the best-preserved part of Skien from Ibsen’s time. His childhood home at Venstøp is currently being restored and will reopen as a new museum in 2028. Until then, you can follow in Ibsen’s footsteps at several places around the city, either with a guide or on your own using an Ibsen walking guide available from the tourist information office.
