Description of the walk
Lårdalstigen is a challenging, but fantastic walk with speactacular views from the edge of the mountain ridge above the Telemark Canal.
Along the hike, you will pass through old cultural landscape and historic sites. You can stop and admire the rugged silhouettes of Risen and Gygri, and read about the legend associated with these rock formations. Perhaps you will also spot ospreys?
Most people choose to start the walk at the top of Eidsborgberget, above Dalen, and walk to Lårdal, but it is also possible to start the hike in Lårdal and walk the opposite direction. From mid-May to mid-September you can enjoy the one way from the deck on one of the ferry boats M/S Victoria or M/S Henrik Ibsen on the Telemark Canal. The total length of the hike 14 km and a long days walk, or you can bring your tent and make it a 2 day hike. There is also a small cabin along the way, Heddebu, which is open to hikers.
The beautiful village of Lårdal has idyllic squares and a pleasant lakeside area with the old quay for the ferries on the Telemark Canal. There are also accomocation and eating place in Lårdal.

Remember to wear sneakers with good soles or hiking boots, and to bring plenty of water (at least 2-3 litres on warm days).
The ferry boats come in to Lårdal on fixed call in the afternoon. Henrik Ibsen leaves Lårdal on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 17.20 and Victoria on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 17.55.
If you want to take the morning ferry from Dalen to Lårdal, the departure time for Henrik Ibsen is Mon, Tue, Thu and Sat at 08:35, and for Victoria Wed, Fri and Sun at 08:00.

We supply you with necessary maps, compass and a backpack with sandwiches, cold drinks, coffee/tea, chocolate and fruit. The boat fare is also included in the package. Please note that this is a mountain hike best suited for the physically fit.
If you're driving along the E134, turn off at Høydalsmo, taking the Fv 45 towards Dalen. Approximately 1 km after you have passed the villlage of Eidsborg and the stave church, there is a road to the left signposted Lårdalstigen.
From Dalen you drive on road Fv 45 towards Høydalsmo and approximately after 4 km, after all the turns, there is a road to the right signposted Lårdalstigen.
Park at the end of the gravel road. Please do not park in front of the tunnel entrance.
If you decide to walk from Lårdal, follow the signs to Lårdal from Fv 45 between Høydalsmo and Dalen. Halfway down the through the village of Lårdal there is parking on the left-hand side by Eben Ezer.
