Route Description: A Gem for the Whole Family

The trail to Venelifjell is thoughtfully designed to ensure a great experience for hikers of all ages:

  1. Crossing the Marshes: The hike begins across idyllic marshlands equipped with wooden boardwalks (klopper), ensuring you keep your feet dry.
  2. Venelitjørni Lake: After a short ascent, you reach the beautiful Lake Venelitjørni. This is the perfect spot for a break:

  3. The Summit (904 m): From the lake, follow the trail further across rocky ground to reach the summit cairn.

An Extraordinary View

On a clear day, the panoramic view from the top of Venelifjell is breathtaking:

  • To the South: You can see all the way to the coast and the sea at Kragerø.
  • To the North: Views stretching toward the majestic mountains of the Hardangervidda plateau.
  • To the East: The iconic profile of Gaustatoppen.

Alternative Routes in the Veneli Area
Looking for a longer challenge? The area is well-signposted and marked with the classic Norwegian red "T"s, offering several options:

Venelifjell Around (6.9 km): A moderate loop (blue-graded) that takes approximately 4.5 hours.

Venelifjell via Tjørnstøyl (7.2 km): A more demanding route (red-graded) for experienced hikers, with an estimated duration of 5 hours.

Responsible Hiking and Conservation

To preserve "The Beautiful Mountain" for the future, we encourage all visitors to practice responsible hiking:

  • Stay on marked trails: Protect fragile vegetation and local ecosystems.
  • Leave no trace: Always carry your trash home and respect local fire regulations.
  • Respect wildlife: Avoid disturbing birds and animals, especially in protected areas.
