Seljord

Seljord is bordering Tinn in the north, Hjartdal in the east, Notodden and Bø in the south and Tokke and Vinje in the west. The highest peek is Brattefjell with 1.541 meter above sea level. Seljord city is lying at the foot of the Skrove with 1.370 m and besides the Seljord lake. The Seljord Lake is very important for the tourism industry during the summer month because of the well known saga of the sea snake Seljordsormen, the Danseband festival, the country festival, Seljordspelet and last but not least the agricultural fair Dursku’n which is hold every second weekend in September.

History
Since 1837 Seljord has been an independence administrative unit and its borders have been stable in more than 100 years. On the 1st of January in 1883 a part of Seljord with about 235 inhabitants had been converted to the Bø commune. On the 11th of October 1873 an untilled part of Kviteseid was alienated to Seljord by royal resolution. The last border regulation was made 23rd of January 1905 when an untilled part of the Hjartdal commune was alienated.

Public transport
The head office of Telemark Bilruter is based in Seljord. The bus company operates a huge route net all over Telemark and further down to Arendal in Aust-Agder.
