The Telemark Canal stretches 105 km from Skien to Dalen, from the coast of Telemark through a beautiful natural and cultural landscape to the feet of the high Hardanger Mountain Plateau. The canal has 8 locks, the first of which was finished in 1861. 500 men worked on the canal night and day for 5 years to complete it in 1892, and it was recognized as one of the most spectacular waterways in all of Europe. The height difference is 72 meters.
You can travel the canal with the MS Viktoria or the MS Henrik Ibsen, which sail between Skien and Dalen during the summer season. The MS Telemark sails daily from Akkerhaugen to Lunde during the summer season.
