Soria Moria is a work of art of a sauna - flashing like a jewelry in Lake Bandak! The sauna of the gold pen will be used to increase the attractiveness of the place - for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
About Soria Moria
Soria Moria is the first installation in the project "Vannvegens fortellinger"/ "The Waterway's Stories", which is divided into 6 parts where each of the canal municipalities will have their art work. It is the Telemark Canal Regional Park, together with the municipalities, who is behind the project.
In The Waterway's Stories, art, architecture and light will be used as an instrument in a comprehensive concept to highlight the attraction of the landscape and make the places along the canal more visible. "The main idea is that visitors and people living in the area should experience the canal landscape in a new way," says architect David Fjågesund in Faste landskap / Arkitektur. Fjågesund is part of the Nordic design team behind the project, which also has a landscape architect, lighting designer and artist.
The artistic idea
The inspiration for the sauna is derived from surrounding landscape and history. The characteristic silhouette of the building is an interpretation of the sloping mountain sides disappearing into Bandak. The plywood is inspired by local construction, and in between the wood you will see the shimmer of gold.
"The gold refers to the contrast that occurred between low-key local Telemark people and lavish foreign upper class during the establishment of Dalen Hotel in the late 19th century," explains David Fjågesund.
For the public
Soria Moria serves as a focal point for everyone - a place of rest and reflection, for meeting and conversation. For local residents arranging sauna nights, the hotel guest strolling in his bathrobe through the park, the hiker coming down from the mountain or the tired cyclist after cycling the canal.
