Explore Telemarks waterways by kayak or canoe

Telemark with its long coastline and deep fjords as well as a number of rivers and lakes is an eldorado for paddling. There are plenty of opportunities for kayaking and canoeing.

The coast of Telemark is a rich archipelago with small and medium-sized islands. For kayakers, this provides a lot of opportunities. Most islands provide lovely recreation grounds. If the weather is fine you can even paddle on to the open sea. Pack your tour bag and go exploring along the Telemark coast in kayaks and find your own sandy beach, island or campsite.

The Telemark Canal runs from the coast to the forest and mountains using 8 locks to cover a distance of 105 kilometers. It is quite possible to combine active holiday and a trip with one of the historic canal boats M/S Henrik Ibsen or M/S Victoria. You can bring your canoe or kayak aboard parts of the stretch and paddle the stages you want. But remember that you must also pre-book a place for a canoe at www.booktelemark.no. At Telemark Kanalcamping in Lunde there is a canoe / kayak rental if needed. Along the canal, two new accommodations have been established in old warehouses. The new "accommodation boxes" can be found at Fjågesund pier and Bandaksli pier.

Inland there are many opportunities for great nature and paddle experiences. One example is the “Herrevassdraget” where the lakes lie like beads on a string with only short carrying distances between them. Telemark has many beautiful lakes that offer beautiful scenery and quiet surroundings.
