The island offers nice walking areas, exciting flora, cultural monuments and good swimming opportunities.
There are beautiful sandy beaches in several places on the island. In Slåvika there is a trace of old limestone breaches in connection with Norsk Hydro's activities at Notodden. There is also possibility of tenting in Slåvika.
On the island there are sheep walking around, these are fenced and the audience is asking to keep the gates locked.
Close to the ferry pier Lindtein lies Arøyaskolen with accommodation for 30 pers. Here you can swim and fish small crabs. Tenting is possible at the school, there is also a playground and toilet facilities.
