8 kmThe Saboteur Trail (Sabotørstien) is perhaps Norway's most famous historical hiking route. This is the path used by the world-renowned Norwegian resistance fighters during WWII on the night they carried out the legendary heavy water sabotage mission against Vemork. Experience dramatic war history combined with the magnificent nature of the Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage site.
Quick Facts
The hike begins at Rjukan Fjellstue. From here, you follow the gravel road a short distance into the Hjerdalen valley before the trail leads you into beautiful and varied forest terrain.
Essential Gear: Sturdy footwear (hiking boots) is a prerequisite. On rainy days, waterproof boots are highly recommended as the trail can become wet and muddy.
To add an extra dimension to your experience, consider joining a guided tour. A professional guide will share detailed stories from the war and provide exclusive access to the authentic Saboteur’s Cabin.
