The Telemark Canal finished its construction more than a hundred years ago, and when the canal was finished in 1892 it was considered in Europe to be the "8th wonder".

500 men had worked for 5 years to blow their way through the mountains. An astounding 18 lock chambers between Skien and Dalen; 105 kilometre long canal with a height difference of 72 meters.

The Canal was called the "speedway" between East and West Norway. It was seen as the most important transport route for people, cattle, goods and lumber. Today it is primarily used as tourist attraction where both locals and tourits from all over the world come and experience the more than 100 years old locks. Everything is authentic here in Telemarkskanalen.

A journey on the Telemark Canal is a journey through nature, culture and history; through narrow waterways and locks surrounded in a beautiful landscape.
