The island Gumøy

Gumøy is the third largest island in the Kragerø archipelago. The island is well hidden in the inner side of Jomfruland, and it takes about 20 min by ferry from central Kragerø to Eastern Gumøy (Ferry dock: Tangane).

At Gumøy we find a variety of terrain to walk in, and thanks to the wild sheep in the area, the island is both bright and open. At the islands highest point, Signalen, there is a 360 degrees view. This point is also known as Vestre Gumøyknuten, and is located at the west side of the island, towards Kragerø.

Cultural trail
The cultural trail at Gumøy is 3 kilometers long, and goes around the golf court and other special areas tied to the cultural landscape at Gumøy.
Along the path there are, to mention a few, small viewpoints, “isdammene” (ice dams) and places where there has been mining. Along the paths there are sat up several information boards to provide you with more information about the place. On the information boards, you can find information about local place names, history, fauna and geology. A map of the path can be found by the ferry port at Tangane, and by the golf clubhouse in Kvernmyra.

If you want to participate in a longer walk you can walk to the ”mountaintop”, Østre Gumøyknuten. From here you can follow the path down to Skutevika, which is a well-known and popular marina for boat tourists. The islands roads and paths are also great for cycling.

On Gumøy you also have the possibility to rent apartments for holiday and you can play golf. For more information please contact: Gumøy feriesenter
