Enjoy the Telemark canal!
From M/S Victoria
Getting there
By car
From abroad, we recommend the Color Line ferry between Hirtshals in Denmark and Larvik. Alternatively, there is also a ferry route via Kristiansand, which is south of Telemark. The canal ships leave from Skien, but you also chose other ports of departure.
By plane
Direct flights from Amsterdam to Sandefjord Airport Torp. Direct flights also to Oslo Airport Gardermoen or other airports as Kjevik (Kristiansand).
By bus
There are several bus departures in Telemark. Please contact us for further information, at +47 35 90 00 20.
As the Telemark canal was finished in 1892, it was rated the most spectacular waterway in Europe. With 18 lock chambers through 8 locks, and a height difference of 72 metres, there were opportunities of a 105 km water journey from the ocean to the mountains.
Be a part of ancient cultural history, beautiful scenery, relaxation and locking as it used to be done for more than 100 years ago. The dignified ships M/S Victoria and M/S Henrik Ibsen are sailing from Skien to Dalen during summer season. You may travel from two to 11 hours, and the canal bus brings you back to your starting point.
